Where it's been: J'ai pris pour modèle les mains d'un ami sculpteur aujourd'hui disparu. La sculpture est comme la peinture sur certains plans. La lumière, la gestion du plein et du vide. Le mouvement créé par l'équilibre dans le déséquilibre. Giacometti parti en voyage avec pour seul bagage un de ses minuscules modelages dans une boite d'allumette. Peut-être l'origine de ses sculptures allongées, n'arrivant plus a faire de grands modelages. Légende ou réalité?/Ce portrait fait partie d'une série nommée "aetatis suae." Souvenir des portraits de la Renaissance. Aetatis Suae était écrit en latin derrière ou sous le portrait pour donner l'âge de la personne sur le tableau.
